The Council Chambers Empty The Council Chambers

Post by Degren Brightforge Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:09 am

As we have created the council, and we don't quite yet have a place to hold our meetings, I believe the inn will have to suffice. As we all know, we have agreed on a one month trial period of the council, allowing for change to take effect much more quickly over this time. To begin with, it is important to mention who the members are, so that others might be able to decide on their feelings. They are as follows:

Volkihere: As the Sheriff and the Earth Champion, Volk is a prime candidate for a position on the council. His views, while often controversial, are nonetheless in the interest of Holdfast.
Opal: As Water Champion, and a lady of calm and level thinking, Opal is a wise decision for councilwoman.
Lady Val: General Val's experience and birthright gives her the knowledge and education to properly serve the council, and we trust her wisdom will work towards the betterment of the council.
Ravira: Ravira represents a minority within the population of Holdfast as well as the leatherworkers within Holdfast. She brings with her knowledge of her own people, as well as knowledge of trade.
Malva: Malva has shown courage in battle, and is one of our most talented alchemists. She has never shown wanton rage or cruelty, and has only ever kept a calm head in times of danger.
Skyius Ventus: With his past in the military, as well as his impervious belief in truth, and his leadership of the Beast Guild, Sky has proven his ability to handle diffiult, and even dangerous tasks, for the betterment of the people of Holdfast.
Torvallis: Torvalis is our most powerful fire wizard, and is also our cook. He represents phineas when he is away.
Degren: Represents the Knights and Blacksmiths of Holdfast.

I apologise if I have forgotten anyone, I'm currently afflicted with a terrible Flu, and my mind is somewhat muddled at the moment.

Should anyone finds reason that someone on this council should not hold a place of power, please, come forward with our reasons. I will post a box outside the Inn for anonymous notes to be sent(PM AD). Additionally, should you think of someone else who should be upon this council, do the same.

Thank you all for your time!

The Council Chambers Empty Re: The Council Chambers

Post by Degren Brightforge Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:14 am

During our first council meeting, I noticed that we often became drawn off track, and several conversations would break out at a time. It is important to understand that communication is key in the Council, and everyone should be given a chance to speak. As such, I request that we consider enacting a new rule for council meetings. Anyone wishing to speak must either await the current speaker to finish his or her own dialogue, or raise their hand, to represent their urge to comment on the current topic.

While it is important to maintain transparency for the people by allowing the meetings to be public, it is also important to maintain civility during our meetings. Any and all onlookers must also follow these rules, and must keep any chatter to an absolute minimum during the meetings.

The Council Chambers Empty The Breach

Post by Volkihere Malacalo Tue Jun 21, 2016 9:02 pm

(3 days after Event)
Volkihere walks into the council chambers.
OOG: after gathering as many members he could find.
"I've called you all here because we must discuss the Breach, for those of you who do not know, the Isle of the dead is the closest earthly location to the land of the dead, this means the veil between worlds is very thin, and has been torn because of the creation of the elemental circles, releasing the Hellions from a tear in reality that leads to another plane of existence, and beings are traveling between the worlds and coming to our world, and if these creatures stay for too long then the Breach will tear even larger, and if allowed to grow too large then the world on the other side of the Breach will encompass our world, and kill everyone in our world. If we can quickly dispatch any creatures that come through then the breach will continue to slowly form and become a gate between worlds, and we will be safe.

I am suggesting that I form a group of battle hardened mages that would be specially trained to combat these beasts. If there are any who wish to train under me or who wishes to allocate support to this cause, assist if not for Holdfast, if not for yourself, then for the whole damned world. Any objections to anything I've said, speak now?

The Council Chambers Empty Re: The Council Chambers

Post by Degren Brightforge Wed Jun 22, 2016 3:31 pm

I agree that we should meet this threat head on. In fact, Knight Major Auren Warfield has expressed his desire to join this group as an emissary of The Order of Iron. However, I have a few things I wish to add. Firstly, perhaps we should invest in discovering more about these tears, rather than simply training to combat the beasts that pour from them . While I don't doubt the man who explained it to us, I also don't have the luxury of taking everything he tells us as the only truth that exists. Doing that would only put Holdfast in greater danger. There exists a library of extensive knowledge in the Land of the Dead, and it may be worth our time to scour this place for more information on our problem.

Also, while mages are the most useful in matters of inter-dimension warfare, we should likely not exclude warriors from helping with with group. From a different plane or not, they are nonetheless forced into physical form on our world, and can be combated in ways that a warrior excels at.

In closing, I agree with Councilman Volkihere. We should begin preparations to battle this new threat immediately. If the council wishes it, the Order is more than willing to offer its assistance in this matter.

Also, Lady Keket, I believe a Scribe of sorts may be beneficial to this council. Thank you for the suggestion!

The Council Chambers Empty Re: The Council Chambers

Post by Lady Val Wed Jun 22, 2016 4:05 pm

Lady Val stands to address the council "I agree with Sir Brightforge, we must learn more about The Breech if we wish to truly understand how best to defeat it. That being said Sheriff Malacalo is correct in that those who are aware of magic are likely to be best suited to identifying changes in The Breech as they occur, although when it comes to killing the beasts I feel that one sword is just as good as another. Additionally, there is one angle we have not considered. The wanderer who informed us of The Breech may have had psychic abilities, thus it may be to our benefit to have those who are psychically trained also in this group. Consequently councilmen, I feel that this "battle hardened" group, as you say, should be composed of mages, psychics, and warriors to cover all of your bases. We don't want you all getting spirited away by the first monster that has the ability to entrance mages."

"Oh and you may want to consider having more Fae within your group. They are much more sensitive to fluctuations in magical energies. Oh, and I believe Lady Keket's recommendation of a scribe is an excellent point." She says turning to her cousin and nodding in approval.

"Also, I move to start a census. The fist step in improving upon what we have is knowing what it is we have to improve upon. After we know what we have, be it mages, smiths, warriors, and the like, we can interview newcomers to keep our records up to date."

"I spoke with a few members of the Council, and I believe a few people weren't entirely comfortable with being upon a council. So, I ask, does anyone on this council not wish to sit upon it?" (OOG: I really did hear this from some people. So, if you know any of 'em, ask em Please haha)

Post by Malva Fri Jun 24, 2016 12:50 pm

Malva speaks up: "Yes. With most issues presented to the council so far, I haven't particularly cared what the result was. If the point of the council is to be a small group making decisions efficiently, I don't feel like having to get me every time a decision needs to be made just so I can shrug in agreement with the result is very helpful. I think I might stay for another month and then decide whether my input on the council is useful enough to warrant continuing."

"Perhaps Horns was correct. Maybe a vote would help to determine who should remain on the council. This time, however, we should focus less on choosing people based on their race, and focus on their wisdom, and what skills they bring to the council?" (OOG; Could we set up a FB vote...thing?Razz)

The Council Chambers Empty Re: The Council Chambers

Post by Pierre Sun Jun 26, 2016 2:44 pm

"Bonjour toute le monde. As much as I would love to start talking about the real issues that are occurring around us, I believe getting the Council formally set up will help us act faster. As for my opinion, I would like to suggest that the council be approximately 5 persons, and add another as the population of Holdfast increases. I also think that we should vote our members for wisdom and not solely representation of race. I mean not to offend anyone, but if we vote for someone, we should believe they would not be biased, against or for, another race. As these are just my opinions, I leave it up to the public and trial council members to discuss. As for voting, we should vote one person at a time, discuss, and decide if that person if worthy to be on council." (OOG: and return to the person if people are late joining)
"All in all, I first vote for Sir Degren Brightforge. He someone who is neutral and plays a large piece in the betterment of Holdfast. Also played a huge role in setting up this council and the Knights. Do you accept the nomination Sir Degren?"
Pierre sits back down eagerly awaiting feedback.

Degren stands and places an armored hand upon his chest,"Thank ye, Pierre. I accept the nomination. I would also like to nominate Lady Val, for her neutrality and devotion to holdfast. And, if I may, I would also like to nominate Pierre as a speaker, to help keep order during meetings. We had quite a few interruptions and bouts of bickering between us last time, and he may help keep us in line during heated debates "

Lady Val nods gracefully. "Thank you Sir Degren. I agree a smaller council would be better suited to the current size of the town and a census could be useful to determine the abilities and backgrounds of others, although I would like to point out some my not appreciate the idea. As such I accept your nomination and myself nominate Sheriff Malacalo as he will likely have much to say on the subject of a census." she says with a courteous smile.

"I imagine our good sheriff would have much to say on the topic of a mandatory census, aye. But, I imagine a voluntary one would do little to no harm. In fact, I could see it only doing good. He'd be more than welcome to maintain his," Degren throws his hands into the air, mimicking quotation marks with his fingers,"'air of mystery' should he wish it. As far as having a smaller council, it just seems like the proper thing to do. We maintain a rather small number of people at Holdfast, and having a council that makes up most of those numbers doesn't make a whole lot of sense. As I said though, we should be certain to put those in power who would use it most effectively. Our purpose of these nominations are to simply gather a pool of possible nominees who will later be voted upon on a more public forum."

Auron nods his head in respect to those present. "I, too, believe that 5 is a suitable number of people for this council. It should provide a varied perspective, but also keep decision making brief. Considering our current pool of nominees (Degren, Lady Val, and Sherrif Malacalo), I believe the next logical choice is a member with skill in trade, and one with contacts inside and outside of town. Therefore, I nominate Phineas as a council member."

"I've noticed that we are...attacked, often by armed men and women. It might be worth our time to enact a "no weapon zone" past a certain point. We'd allow people who live here to keep theirs, of course, but control over the weapons in the town should probably be a priority. That way, if anyone refuses to drop their swords at the door we can just ask 'em to leave. Or we'd know that they're planning to use said weapons. Aside from maybe annoying a few possible traders, the pros most definitely outweigh the possible cons."
