Exotic Weapons

Post by Timmean on Sun Nov 16, 2014 6:10 pm

I've been wondering, is it possible for a character to have some kind of "exotic" weapon? And by "exotic," I mean a weapon not listed in the normal rulebook. I do realize that such a weapon would have to be approved, and that a safe boffer would have to be built.

A few examples:
- Iron knucles
- Flail
- Double-bladed sword

I'll also note that I have no current plans to make a character with such weapons, it's just a point of curiosity. For now.

Everything is up to AD or safety approval.

That being said, many things can be made that fits into one of the categories (Easy, Average etc.)

1) For example Metal Knuckles would likely be an Easy Weapon, unless they were huge, and could possibly call for Metal or Mauling damage depending upon approval.

2) The Flail is not usually approvable on safety grounds as the swing of a flail is more than the allowed 90 degrees and automatically strikes as "baseball batting".

3) The double edged sword would likely be considered a "Great Sword" with the hilt in the middle instead of near or at one end. Alternatively, it could be considered a conjoined pair of short swords and required "two-handed" fighting plus "Average weapon: short-sword" (depending upon approval).

Of course, this is what a great back story, a "hand full of crps" and an imaginative phys rep is all about.

Gauntlets are easy weapons, (unarmed strike progression == easy weapon progression anyways), under the rules, and when enchanted with fire can add those enchantment points, (but not your rank in gauntlet), to a grapple check. Metal knuckles wouldn't be much different but I don't think they could contribute to grapple the same way.

In related news, Torvallis! has been considering getting some gauntlets.

There's this character in our LARP over here who has Indian/Arabic style throwing discs which are basically soft frisbees coated in foam and latex. They are practically the only long range weapon that I've seen with a perfectly straight trajectory. Apparently they are awesome for the tunnel LARPs in the catacombs under London.
