On the subject of Ascended Empty On the subject of Ascended

Auron approaches the notice board within the main building of Sanctuary with a stern look on his face, and posts a few pieces of paper.  They read as follows:

On the Subject of the Ascended

This will be a collection of the information on the Ascended that we have gathered in recent weeks. It is by no means a complete understanding, but I believe that most of the information contained on these papers is correct.

First of all, the world as we know it is made up of something called “the Spectrum.” It’s a collection of all colors – the things that give us our emotion, our drive, our power, and our will. (Still a lot of theory on this subject.)

What we call the Ascended are actually hyper-focused colors. They are the result of a human who, through sheer force of will and an overwhelming desire to achieve a very specific goal, have taken an entire color from the Spectrum and are keeping it for their own.

In taking this color, they have given up all the other parts of what they used to be. The moment that Godo ascended from the Spectrum, the human that he was ceased to exist. He is that Color now. Godo is only Red.
Godo is the specific shade of Red that represents things like rage, hate, and (most importantly) wrath. We don’t yet know for certain what colors the other Ascended represent. The Colors that have been mentioned to us are: Red (Godo), Green, Blue, Orange, Violet, Yellow, and Purple. Each one likely embodies one "sinful" (as described by Lysander) trait each, and only seven can exist at any one time.

The other two that we know of are close by. One is in Applevale, and the other is in Soul’s Landing. The moment we ripped open the rift and destroyed the Axis, Holdfast lit up like a beacon to all of the Colors. They can sense that the power they desire is there and within their grasp - they will continue to come for us, one after another, until we do something about it.

The Colors cannot be in the same place at the same time. Lights and color bend around them, and in that way they repel each other.

Because they have hyper-focused into such a dense, unyielding color, the rest of the Spectrum simply has no choice but to bend around them. It is for this reason that conventional means cannot harm them. If they do not wish for a blow to touch them, they can simply decide to not allow it to make contact.

Godo seeks to weave himself into the entire Spectrum. To fill the entire world with his color alone. If he succeeds, we will all become creatures of pure rage and hate – no one will survive. He needs us alive right now to accomplish this goal, and has been holding himself back for almost two years.

Side note: The Axis were the first Ascended. Instead of single, hyper-focused colors, they took a large chunk of the Spectrum with them when they left this world. But without the rest of the All, they couldn’t sustain themselves and degraded into the creatures that we encountered a few years ago.

If one is slain or unraveled, another will eventually take its place. This process can take any length of time – it could happen instantly if another human is in the right state of mind and the right circumstances – or it could take decades. The only way to break this cycle is to weave them all back into the Spectrum at the same time.

When Talia planted the seed (the “purple mana”) last year, she began the process of building a bridge to what we’ve been calling the “Elderwild” - the original plane of the humans. The bridge cannot be completed as long as the Colors exist - the Spectrum is not whole. People are meant to hold all colors, and we can’t as long as there are colors missing. Weaving the Colors back into the Spectrum is the only way to remedy this. But that is not our problem right now…

Can they be stopped?

Yes. Lysander outlined two methods that a Color can be unraveled and returned to the Spectrum.

1st – A truly genuine act of the opposite side of the same color. Red represents more than just wrath – it also represents things like kindness, forgiveness and courage. If you present a Color with a pure act of the same color, it may unravel them. These acts cannot be planned for (because the very act of doing that renders it fake), but they can work if the act is true and if it resonates with who the Color was before they became hyper-focused.

2nd – Usurping their color. If another human exhibits a denser focus in the specific color (for example, if someone became more wrathful than Godo), they would take that color for themselves instead, and the existing Color would be immediately unraveled. This method is less than ideal, because the new Color would still be a large threat.

Given that both of these methods would be nearly impossible to plan for, we sought a third way. Thanks to the work of people like Lysander, Teak, Talia and Krond (and everyone else, really), we have it. More details will (probably) follow. If you have any questions, feel free to attach a note to this board and someone can answer it when there's time.

Auron reads over the papers one last time, nods, and heads to prepare for the mission to Applevale.
