The curious incident of the Val in the night-time

Over the past month Holdfast has been hit by a string of night-time and early morning pranks ranging from contact gel potions on favourite objects, drinks spiked with salt or lemon juice, curdled milk, odd sculptures made of armour, shields, and weapons in the middle of the inn, and chalk or makeup based markings on people's faces. The letter V is usually found somewhere nearby written on paper or chalk. Val appears cheerful and positively bouncy at times, but seemingly innocuous statements made in conversation lead to her leaving the inn unexpectedly, sometimes fighting back tears. Every morning the tables in the inn are organized and wiped spotless, the floors swept, the chairs aligned, and the windows open to air out the space. Sometimes there are even wild flowers in vases. Val comes and goes around meals, talking to people and trying to settle any disputes or provide advice. She can sometimes be found wandering the woods near the Faerie Ring/Door, the Elemental Circles, or near her caravan when not needed by townsfolk. Sometimes she just disappears for hours into the forest. She makes a point to never wear red, black, or gold and will refuse any such colours from others when offered. She will not answer to the name "Lady Val."
