Teaching A Surgeon An Easier Way Empty Teaching A Surgeon An Easier Way

Rosco, having not quite felt himself since being kidnapped, has been spending most of his days now in quiet. He's either writing reports on beasts or patching up hunters who bite off more they can chew, finding nervousness in the quiet town where he usually finds solace. One thing manages to stay consistent, and that is the rhythmic pattern of maintaining his surgical kit.

When lunch is done for the day and supper not yet ready to be cooked, he finds himself doing just that. Perfect timing to teach, and a perfect and opportunity to distract himself, he looks to his friend at the Alchemy table across from him.

"Lilly, do you still want to learn to be a surgeon?" As he speaks, he finishes threading his suture needle, adding it to the neat collection of prepared equipment. "I won't make you do what Yanna did, promise."

Lillium glances up from the work table, laden with stripped herbs, and assorted gooey bits in neatly labelled tins. Her eyes widen, and narrow. Suspicion is her knee jerk reaction to any offer, always. But this is Rosco, he's only ever wanted to help. She's beginning to understand that impulse.

Biting her lip, then taking a deep breath, "Yes please, I'd like that."

Her brows draw together as she starts packing away her supplies. She can do this, she can definitely, totally do this...

Rosco grins, rearranging his kit yet again while he waits for Lilly to join him. It's a nervous habit by now, although it is quite convenient for when he needs something quick.

Once she sits next to him, he reaches for a scrap bandage and some suture, humming quietly. He didn't really get this far in his plan, he's not sure how to teach someone without just throwing them to the wolves. But Yanna had spent weeks and months watching him work, and Lilly never really went further than the field medic station or the triage line.

"When you're going just for the sake of getting someone back into the fight you have an excuse to be sloppy—" he stops, and he can feel his cheeks heat up as he back tracks frantically. "Not saying you are! Just that, y'know, surgery is a different thing—"

He sighs, shaking off the fumbling mess. "Just, a good, strong suture takes steady hands and lots of patience. It's similar to sewing in that way, but the way your hands move... it's very different." He cuts a hole in the center of the cloth. "If this was skin, right now, how would you fix it?"
