Literacy for awareness?
I'm looking over the rulebook about spellcasting, and I' being told I need Literacy to learn it but I don't see anything about it at all. I see it being a req. for book mage (of course), but not for normal casting. Normally, I'd go with what the book says, but this isnt the first time I've heard this. So, I ask the great AD in the sky to clarify.

Re: Literacy for awareness?
Were I to hazard a guess, I would say in older versions of the rule set Literacy was a prerequisite for Awareness, and that prerequisite was removed at some point, but that some of the text of the rulebook wasn't changed accordingly (Namely, the Elf racial section, although I have a vague memory of seeing it somewhere else, too).
Whether it's a prerequisite or not as far as our game is concerned is up to the AD, though, so that doesn't really mean anything.

Each spell costs double XP but you do not need it

I have always played you need Literacy for Awareness. I can't make a call on this as I am away from my rulebook but please remember that we are sticking with an older rulebook. When I get to my rulebook, I'll double check. This is just a heads up.

Volk is right; spells all have "L" in the teachy-letter code meaning that "Skill costs double without literacy", and awareness and tiers of power do not have "L" in the teachy-letter code.
