Crossbow Advice Empty Crossbow Advice

Post by Degren Brightforge Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:19 am

So i've had an old Nerf Mega Centurion kicking around for quite some time, so I removed the long barrel on it (The image of what that looks like is linked below). I plan to make it into a crossbow. The pullback bolt will look awesome once I attach a PVC bow onto it with some rope. But, unfortunately, Its BRIGHT RED. Any advice on how to make it look more... Crossbow-y?Razz Thanks!

Well, for colour, paint or marker will probably do fine. If you want, you could go over the body with some sandpaper first; that should make it a little rougher, giving it a little texture, and might take off some surface paint (though I suspect most of the colour is from the actual plastic).

I think for this you might be better off asking the Nerf modding community about how best to paint it and affix crossbow arms to it. NerfHaven's forums might be a good place to start.

As a modder myself to paint you would first take apart your centurion. Give it a light sanding. Tape off and start painting. I use Krylon brand paints as they are durable, not to costly and stick well to plastic. A lot of nerf modders have move into using vynal paint ( used for auto upholstery and dash boards) this is more pricy but twice as durable. Then again my Maveric paint mod has been painted and banged around for 3 years without showing any wear so to me not worth the increased cost. If you are looking for feild proformance mods there are a few for the centurnion but your Nerf feild range from target required will have to me increase, but Larp requires a 10 foot min at full draw if I remember the rules correctly, you will not have that option for the bolt draw of your nerf gun.

Nerf gun here was done with Krylon brand paint

Other then placing on a Lath on shouldnt' take much more.

( sorry for the necro posting but I felt I could contribute to the answer being a nerf modder)

My current plan is to take a larger piece of pvc pipe and trim it in half. Heat gun it flat and trace out a stencil I will be making for the gun I will be modding. Then shape it again via heat gun and attatch it to the nerf gun. One thing about this is more then likley once done there will be no way to strip back down the nerf gun so all inside pieces you want painted (trigger hammers etc) should be pre done. I can do up a process build thread once I do this if anyine is interested. (A lot of midevail crossbows were rope attatched so thinging of going this route. Other ways would be the less safe acidtone weilding or tap and die then screw, or screw and bolt.)
