"I see. I see.

I'll just wander off and try to rend a few potions and then check back in with you, I guess"

Once Torvallis! wanders off to do go practice, Malva starts puttering away at her recipe book: a sketch here, an encryption there... until she hears the loud "BAMF!" of Torvallis!'s practice. "Perhaps I should devise a test for them..." she mutters to herself before flipping over to a new page in her blank notebook and starting to jot things down.

(oog: I am early-morning confused. I clicked on 'show latest reply' and it only showed me page one, ending with 'actually, that's all I had in mind", so I forgot where we were in this post)

Torvallis! wanders back into the inn, grabs some bandages from someone's surgery kit, and begins resignedly patching up their hands.

"Torvallis!, do you think you've had enough practice? If so I have a test for you." She says, picking a piece of paper up off the bunk and extending it to Torvallis!:

Torvallis! takes the paper and reads it for about a minute.

"Hm . . . well, it is obvious that Flora C is the only possible flora. Then taking you by your word that it is a solvable puzzle, I am left with 5 unmentioned ingredients, so I should start on whatever path crosses out the most possibilities. With that in mind, N is both an animal component and a fizzer. S crosses out all of the ores. And then throwing in the remaining dirts fills out the potion.

But that's not a satisfactory way of solving things.

Ah, I see. Of course, if it only has one flora, it must have three dirts, and Dirt Q and Dirt P are both acidic.

That leaves us with Dirts R, S, and T.

We then have no ores, and require an animal component, a flora, a slimer, and something that fizzes. Gather N is both an animal component and causes fizz.

As for Flora, we have a choice between the slimers Flora C and Flora D, but Flora D would dye the concoction red.

So our components are indeed C, N, R,S and T, whether I'm figuring from meta-puzzle knowledge or from alchemical knowledge!"

"Correct! I am satisfied with what you have taken from my lessons. Good job."
