Learning to love Holdfast - Part 2
[Set Saturday night, one week from October Game]
Rook scrubs at a stubborn bit of burnt on food. His hands wrinkled from the dishwater and his belly full from the evening meal.
He quietly works away at the pot as he listens to the bustle of the inn through the serving window. There's something so comforting about that wash of sound, not quite distinct enough to follow any particular conversations, but also loud enough to make the inn feel alive. The last few nights have been colder and it's obvious that autumn is taking its turn towards the cold slumber of winter, a fact punctuated by the increasing number of people spending their nights in the warmth and company of the inn. A smile crosses his face as he inspects the now spotless cookware.
Rook empties the wash basin and looks out of the window at the clear starlit sky above, contemplating how to spend the rest of his night. Perhaps he should continue to work on the song he started earlier in the week. Glancing down at the small mountain of drying dishes he shakes his head; on second thought something more leisurely might be better at the moment. Maybe he'd be better off bundling up and going stargazing, admiring the crystalline beauty of the night sky...
Drifting in from the main chamber, the sound of strings being tuned catches Rooks ear. Glancing out he sees Gull preparing to treat the inn to a performance. Rook grins as he quickly pours himself a mug of cider and hurries in to grab a seat near the bard. Before long, Gull takes up the lute and begins to strum along to one of his more well known songs. One by one, people start to sing along until the whole inn is filled with song and laughter.
Rook takes a deep sip of his cider and smiles.
Yes, this will be the perfect way to spend the night.
