Learning to love Holdfast - Part 1 Empty Learning to love Holdfast - Part 1

[Set the monday after the events of October 2022 game]

In the tranquil woods north of the inn, lush with life, verdant light streaming through the trees, Rook sits and takes in a deep breath.

The events of the full moon are over.
The threat of the Dread Splices is over for now.
In the moment, he is safe.

The smells of the forest surround him. The lush freshness of the moss, the scent of pine, and the loamy richness of the earth itself.

For a moment he is taken back to a time of relative safety. Hunting for herbs with his mother in a similar forest. It was a simpler time; well before the calamity. When the threat of hellions and dread splices seemed nothing more than tales to frighten you in the night.

The call of a song bird wakes him from his reverie. The gentle trilling of the bird's melody inspires Rook and he takes out his flute and begins to imitate the creature, building on its song. For a divine moment he is caught up in the thrill of creating music and plays openly from his heart. Then, as moments like this are apt to do, it fades.

Rook sighs, as the woods return to their serene and peaceful state of quiet.
Yes, perhaps Holdfast can be a home after all.
