Re: Town Meeting
" it seems that we have done well with this meeting thus far. We have formed our council, discussed the Empire attack, discussed the expansion and alteration of the order and this order of flowers. There is little we can do about the Porqois until they return, and I have already dispatched word for Asher and Sky to return to us. The circles are being charged by the champions and their apprentices, the fae circle is complete, and Borin has been sent to Applevale for silver."

"I believe you sshaid, how about every time a person diessh at the hand of our government, the posshitionssh go up for re-election, and then, it would also ensshure that every death is worth going into an election over, which while it issh a low bar, it's a nisshe sshafeguard.
I sshuposshe I'm glad I misshundesshtood.
And alright, alright, no touching."

Re: Town Meeting
Grayfeared sits back thoughtfully, taking in the conversation as he strokes his chin. "Malva's idea to hold re-elections after every death that is dealt by verdict of the council is a good one. I support it. A power structure should be held accountable for its actions. Though I feel the town should already have the power to call for a vote of non-confidence any time. This would extend the accountability further. For example, if the town does not like the way a situation involving a passing merchant was handled. A mandatory vote of non-confidence after a death dealt by the council should be a law. This would gauge the feelings of the town as to whether the verdict was right or wrong. After a successful vote of non-confidence, the election process would begin again."

Re: Town Meeting
"I agree. The town should be able to have a referendum and re-election if the majority feel that the council is not representing their best interests. I also feel the council should be held accountable after the decision for enacting the death penalty, although I agree with Elder Durkiss in that really we should avoid killing people and we should come up with different methods of punishment."
"Additionally, I name Jaya my second for council duties and name Keket my official secretary. That way if I am in a council meeting or aiding someone else Keket can resolve the issue and if I am not present Jaya can take my place on the council and have Keket to aid her in her civic duties."

Herr speaks directly to Durkis
"The government killing is a low bar because there's a lot of death around here. If the death is caused by the government, either by a member of council murdering someone or a collective decision to kill, an election will take place. Does that clear it up?"
He speaks to Ardin.
"I just want to point out that Durkus said the same government type i did. I'd like it realized that it wasn't JUST his idea."
(OOG: i can understand 99% of what Durkis says just fine)

Re: Town Meeting
"Well, i already told you what i thought you meant, Malva. So that should be pretty obvious. Like, it's really difficult for me to interpret what you said any differently; i misunderstood as well, that's it.
And Joy, maybe you haven't noticed that this a convo between 3 people and that the rest of the group is not interested in our convo, which means they are moving on. Why don't you join them? Do you think we're the center of the debate? That would be rich.
In fact i'm moving on too."
Herr will ignore whatever Joy says next

Re: Town Meeting
"I believe we should discuss the specifics of the job first. We should set them in writing and make it clear that these are the official rulings. That way if we appoint someone to a law position, they will know exactly what is expected of them before they accept. This would eliminate the need to go back and review the other candidates should the being in question decline the position. The point was brought up that we've dealt with strong enough people that one sheriff could be easily over-run. Therefore, my position is currently that we need 3 law officials, and they should all answer to the council. In serious matters, the law enforcers should be sure of the will of the council, before enacting a punishment more serious than detainment. I understand there are extreme situations where lives will be on the line and that may not work. That is when they would answer to the council for a review of their conduct."

Re: Town Meeting
“As Gurok has been chosen by the Faerie themselves, Gurok absolutely has to be one of the sheriffs!” states Phineas the Halfling. “And Pierre, or Dutura or Auron or one of the other knights should also be named one. And the newcomer Ardin would make a great deputy sheriff-in-training just in case we need more sheriffing than we thought!”

"The way I have handled law keeperssh before issh to give them the right to round up a possshe on an assh needed basshissh. So I would advisshe from my experiensshessh that the deputy or deputiessh are resshponisshible in the casshe that the ssheriff is not presshent.
Mssh. Faun Lady, what I undersshtood insshtead of that having an election is a very low bar for the counsshil to clear when they kill sshomeone, is that killing sshomeone is a very low requirement to have an election. So quite the opposshite of what you intended."

Re: Town Meeting
" Phineas, we will not be using the demand of Faerie to determine who is our Sheriff. It is not the way things should be done here. No outside force so far removed should have any bearing on our decisions here today. I am truly sorry if that reality offends your religious beliefs, but we cannot make decisions based on demands made by someone or something that does not need to live with those decisions . I agree with Grayfeared. We should first decide what powers and responsibility the Sheriff will hold before assigning the position. The speech impediment strickened orc, new to our shores though he is, does bring up an excellent suggestion. The ability to round up a posse is one option that may help with several issues our Sheriff may face; namely the situation of facing a superior opponent."

Re: Town Meeting
“Okay, Degren! Let me get this straight,” Phineas says slowly. “The very first thing that the new council is going to decide is to openly and in a bold-faced manner go against the direct and explicit wishes of the Faerie!?!? Really?”
Phineas shakes his head.
“I wasn’t invited to go to the Mists, so I wasn’t there. Maybe this thing, where Gurok being appointed as our Sheriff, was a request or a suggestion or some sort of ‘guideline’. But I really doubt it. The Faerie just don’t work that way!”
The Halfling holds his hands out stretched and backs out of the discussion.
“From this point on, I am staying out of this and I’ll just go back to brewing beer and mead and making stew. But if you end up blue with a tail or with pointy ears and an acute sense of fashion, don’t blame me!”
