Taka means hawk. I got Ryerson to name her. Kuma means bear, so I got him to give me an animal name as well. It's not really a typical Japanese name though.
Kuromori is a more realistic Japanese last name. Most Japanese surnames consist of two kanji, so Kuromori uses the kanji for black and the kanji for forest, which are both common kanji for surnames.
In kanji her name is 黒森鷹

I take names that Tolkien used in his novels and change one sound. Borin is Thorin with a B. Gilmore is Gildor with an M ect.

Hugo is a Germanic name, meaning "Bright in mind and spirit". The rest of his name, "Gavius Albinius" is an ancient roman-style name, featuring a patronymic, his father's given name was Gavius, and a family name, 'Albinius', meaning 'White', albiet mispelled (good work me).
Vadim's name was inspired by Valerim, the nickname of a drunk dude I hung out with in St. Petersburg one time.

Around the time I was creating Joy, I watched Inside Out, fell in love with a particular character design and the rest is history.
As for where I came up with Rosewood, well, it wasn't long after I talked to Sharon about folklore in Newfoundland at a MnG and rose faeries came up. Also, rosewood is a wood used in guitars, which kinda lends to the bard thing.
