Sylvie is Looking for an Herbalism Trainer!

[Sylvie]

With a new blanket of frost and snow covering Holdfast, Sylvie watches as the auras of the plants and wildlife surrounding her home begin to fade away, going dormant for the winter.

Shes surprised to find that this is not the case for all though. Out in the forests, bright blue auras can still be seen from as far as the steps of the inn! Some flowers and plants, she notices, are thriving in these bitter conditions. She walks up to some and stares at them for a long time, wondering what survival mechanisms they utilize to endure such cold conditions.

(Anyone looking from the inn, or walking past her, would just see a silent and still Sylvie staring very hard at some sort of flower or bush.)

[Torvallis!]

Torvallis! walks briskly by, into the woods, and notes the bush that Sylvie is looking at.

"Ah, you're a lucky lil' flower, aren't you? The snow fell before we got too many frosts and now you got a little insulation over your roots! Hopefully it's a dry winter so your petals fall off soon, though . . ."

[Sylvie]

Sylvies head perks up

"Hi! You know about these? What are they?"

[Torvallis!]

"I don't actually know exactly what it is, just a second, let me see if Malva illustrated anything like this . . ."

Torvallis! pulls a book titled "Herbology" out of their alchemy pouch, a sunflower on the front, a faun on the back, and a green dye to the leather binding.

"Hmmm . . . it might not be a useful herb. A blue flower could be a blue poppy, but poppies should have fuzzy stems and less, unfused, petals. This flower is almost shrub like . . . if it was white, I'd call it a moon flower. Maybe it's an odd colouration of moonflower? But it could always just be a pretty flower!

I don't know particularly well about these, but it's plain that this isn't a wintering flower . . . that it's still blossoming indicates that the roots are protected by the snow, so this little guy should survive the winter. Unless it keeps blossoming, and draining its energy during the winter months, in which case it won't pop up again in spring. If the winter winds dry it out soon, it should go into a dormant state over the winter, and the healthy roots will revive it again when the snows melt.

Until then, we should hope the temperature doesn't change too much . . . more than the cold, constantly changing temperatures lead to winterkill more than anything else."
